Spoken and Thought Only Spellwork

Many magickal spells you find on our blog, and other places, use anything from a few to a great many components in order to work effectively; however, sometimes less can be more when it comes to your witchery.

Simple spoken or thought only spells are easy to create, all it takes is a little time, imagination, and effort. As always, everything depends on the needs and desires of the witch doing the spell casting. Any problem a witch can address with a large spell they can address with a spoken spell or thought spell. Some of the major benefits of using spoken and thought only spells are that witches may use them anywhere, and on short notice. With no preparation needed, no physical components to compile or carry around, one cannot beat the convenience of simply speaking or thinking a specific set of words to achieve a desired result.

Whether you create a chant to speak, make a more extensive, or even a one sentence “spell”, you can use the spell wherever or whenever you wish. It allows a witch the opportunity to be private with spells in situations where the witch does not wish to draw attention to their spell casting.

Getting even more personal for the witch, they can create a unique one word spell by combining various sounds to express specific meanings, similar to creating a written sigil. Choose a goal and create a sentence. Play around with the sentence structure, choosing sounds that are pleasing from the sentence and combine the sounds in a new way. For an example, if you chose “I want a good job that suits me “, you may reorder the thought to create a single word, such as: sumejowango. To any other person, it sounds like nonsense, but the witch knows the ultimate intent behind the word. It can then be used, even on a current job around coworkers, or a boss that is making the witch miserable. Think it, speak it. The intent of the word is still occult. Once a verbal sigil has been created, it can be spoken once, or even chanted according to the witches will.

For those among us who were taught, or brought up with the idea that “proper” magick takes written components, candles, herbs, metals, stones, or other components, it can be difficult to make the jump to doing everything internally. Even though it simplifies the spells, it can leave an “otherwise trained” witch with the feeling that the spell is undone, incomplete, or useless. Nothing could be further from the truth. The energy and intent put into it, makes the spell. The spell, and especially the intent behind it, needs to be just as well thought out and focused as with any other magickal working. Just because a spell is simple does not mean you can throw it together with reckless or inattentive abandon and have it perform as you wish. Chaos begets chaos after all.

While more extensive spells and mid-range spells are preferred by many, including myself, a simple verbal spell can be just as effective when necessary. Mantras, affirmations, spell chants, wishing on a star, even making a wish as you blow out birthday candles are all great examples of spells, which need nothing but words, thoughts and energy.

 

Pagans and Love Magick

A friend asked me the following question: Ugh why do pagans get all uptight about love magic?

I knew exactly what she meant, as I have seen witches ranting and raving over the years in person, and online in forums and groups. Witches, Pagans, Wiccans, Druids, Eternalists, et. al. have different rules and beliefs depending on where they studied, who they trained with, what they individually believe, etc. so there are as many answers to the question as there are voices to speak. I am one who believes we are all set on paths for growth and learning once we are born. Some call it fate, destiny, kismet, or by some other name. I simply call it living. Can we change our paths? Of course! Should we change our paths? That must be up to the individual. However, the question of should we change the paths of others? Well, for me, that one is a hard no.

My belief is we each have things to learn, to experience, to grow from during each incarnation and I do not believe they should be missed. We are here to learn and grow as people. We are here to learn from others and to teach others, to share experiences and improve ourselves each time we return.

As such, for love spells, I have a hard line on those as well. Just because we are witches, spell casters, magicians, ones who employ magick to change the world around us, does not mean we have the right to do whatever we please, whenever we pleased.

If a spell is meant to compel love from someone specific who does not feel it, no. If a spell is meant to force an affection to grow deeper, or to prolong it beyond its natural life, then I believe it is best not done. When someone we want to love us does not, when someone we still love is ready to move on, there are lessons for all involved. Of course, they are not necessarily pleasant to experience. Not all lessons are supposed to be enjoyed. Cheating yourself, or someone else, from a lesson by employing magick is a choice you must decide for yourself.

If someone asks your opinion, give it. As far as I am concerned, I remind them that they are cheating themselves and everyone involved if they interfere. Say if Jane does a spell for Joe, she cheats them both out of the correct love experiences that they are supposed to have this incarnation. Then add in the guy, Frank, she is actually supposed to end up with, and the Amy that Joe was supposed to end up with and each of the people they end up with instead of their true intended. Keep magnifying the damage as the ripples echo out exponentially with each inappropriate relationship caused by the spell.

Instead, remind people if they want to do a spell for love, they should one to improve themselves, or to hasten the love that they are supposed to have into their life. Even then, if a wait was supposed to temper them before they meet “the one” for them, they can do more damage than good for themselves and their intended love.

As always, this is MY way of belief, not THE way everyone believes.

Quicken the Divorce

Begin this spell after sunset but complete it before midnight. For successes in matters of law, you perform it on Thursdays, but Sundays are best for victory over troubles. You can define the issue as one or the other as the best wish for the spell, or if you want to double down and do it twice, it will just reinforce the matter.

You will need:
Two candles of the appropriate gender (or one candle each, colors befitting each person’s zodiac sign)
Red thread
Divorce Oil
A sharp implement for carving the candles
Scissors
A piece of parchment
Dragon’s Blood Ink (or a black pen)
Black thread
A pinch each paprika, tarragon, tobacco
A lighter
A fire safe cauldron or bowl

First using either a male and female candle (or two candles, one each to represent the zodiac signs of those involved) carve the involved persons’ names into the appropriate candles. Then, only on the sex that is to be pushed away, place the reversed rune for Wunjo.  It will bring sorrow, strife and frenzy to the offending party. Anoint both candles with divorce oil, start in the center of the candle, and anoint it widdershins from the center of the candle to top and then center to bottom to “send” the spell out when the candle burns.

Divorce oil contains Sandalwood to banish negativity, Pine for clean breaks and to promote new beginnings, Yerba Mate to end relationships, Wisteria to overcome obstacles  and Passion flower to diminish stress.

**A single oil can be substituted if you only have one of them, or oils may be left out if you have some but not all, the oils used will bring the properties mentioned above to the spell.

Tie the candles together with a red thread to symbolize the love that the people once shared and set them aside.

Write the spell

On a piece of parchment using Dragon’s Blood Ink (a black pen will work in a pinch) write out the following spell.

We once were  bound with holy ties
Now ripped asunder through your lies (with scissors, cut the thread binding the candles, put in cauldron)
This cord’s now cut to set me free
You’ll walk away and let me be

From here on out I’ll walk in peace
Your influence, it will now cease
Divorce be granted now and here
My life without you will be clear

No heartache follows from this place
Of you there’ll be no lasting trace
You’ll have no power over me
As I declare so mote it be

Once you have finished writing the spell on the parchment, read the spell over the candles. When you reach the place where you cut the cord binding the two candles together, you will light only the candle of the person you are getting rid of, and then finish reading the spell.

Once the reading is completed, you will lay the parchment flat before you.

Add one Pinch each:

Paprika – Adds energy to spells
Tarragon – Heal the abused
Tobacco – Win in court

You will do two tri-folds to hold these inside. (i.e. Fold the paper into threes trapping the herbs and tobacco inside, turn it 90 degrees and fold it into three the other direction. You end up with a small filled packet.

Use the Dragon’s Blood Ink (or pen) the draw the following sigil for “Quick Divorce” on both front and back. All lines should be touching. (Unfortunately, the computer makes this hard to do.)

Bind the packet closed with the black thread, knotting it seven times. This packet you will set fire to by holding it over the lit candle to ignite it, and then lay it aside into the cauldron or fire safe container holding the cut red thread.

Allow the candle to burn to the end before snuffing it out. Once it is out, take both candles and the ashes of the parchment and thread away from your place and throw them in the trash.
