Witchery: How to Craft a Psychomanteum

Many witches look for ways to enhance their knowledge and to improve their understanding of the world and the universe around them. Witches seek to increase their knowledge and experience in as many different ways as possible.  One way is by use of a psychomanteum. A psychomanteum is a small, enclosed space in your home, which can be set up for the express purpose of communicating with those from beyond the veil of the living. An empty walk-in sized closet can be ideal in both size and privacy required. The space needs to be far from any and all distractions of sound, sights, and other people’s energy in general. If kids are in the household, get a family member, friend, or sitter to keep them far from this space until the working is complete.

First, start by cleansing the room of everything, all items inside, all dirt, all energy, negative, positive, personal, etc. strip it of all energy possible because you want this to be as blank a canvass to start with as possible. Then, bless and consecrate the space and everything that goes into it with Holy Water sprinkled off fresh rosemary twigs to purify the area and draw in the power of remembrance.

Inside the space, you will need to have a seat, which is comfortable for extended periods of use without allowing you to fall asleep, for safety. A small table on which to place a scrying tool of your choice. This tool can be a mirror, scrying bowl or crystal ball, etc. and a few yellow candles to use for illumination and to focus the communication.

Start to assemble the room. Place the table and chair a comfortable distance from each other, place your chosen scrying tool on the tabletop and make certain that the placement of the candles keeps them from being directly reflected in the chosen scrying tool. Nothing should be visible from the vantage point of the viewer other than a blank reflection of the ceiling and/or walls, typically just slightly above and behind  (when using a mirror) the viewer’s head.

On the table top you may also choose to have a few items belonging to the person you are trying to reach, which can be held and felt while concentrating on the person’s visage appearing to you.

Ground and center yourself, breathe deeply and concentrate on the person you are trying to reach. Speak the name of the one you seek quietly and wait for them to come to you. Repeat the name every so often until the person appears or until you are finished for this working.

Complete isolation and concentration is crucial, but even then, it may take several tries to reach the person. The psychomanteum can be left as is after each use and only requires re-cleansing if someone else enters the space, the wrong person tries to reach out to you, or once you have completed the working with the intended person and you want to move on and speak to someone else.

Using a psychomanteum can be a true pleasure for any witch who wants to accrue knowledge from those who have passed, or to re-visit a loved one who has crossed over.

Witches’ Spell: Love Candle Spell # 2

Many times people want to find a new love and typically ask for help from any witch they can find. All through history, witches have been the “go to” people to see when seeking a way to draw love to them. There are many ways to bring love and we will post a few of them on the blog as we go along.

For this spell, you will need seven taper candles as well as a vial of Love oil. Take a single pink candle and anoint it with the Love oil from the top to the center of the candle and then from the bottom to the center of the candle. Be certain to visualize no one face in specific. Instead, focus on the characteristics and traits that the perfect person for you will possess as you dress the candle. This will set the candle to draw and finalize the spell to your purpose. This spell is designed to bring the right person for you, not one that you may think is right for you.

Make certain the candle is in a secure holder and away from any combustible materials. Light the candle. As you gaze at the flickering flame, breathe deeply and block out all other thoughts and focus your intent to draw the perfect person for you. Focus on how it will feel to have that person in your life, the happiness you will feel, the contentment of knowing your perfect match is with you. The feeling that together you will be able to share a love which can overcome any obstacle which you encounter in life because you are made whole with the other half of yourself. Keep focusing on these feelings for as long as you can hold your focus. When you feel yourself beginning to strain to hold these thoughts foremost in your mind, then take a deep breath and begin to recite this spell three times.

Anointed candle I do call

Through winter, spring, summer, and fall

Anointed candle bring to me

My destined lover, meant to be

To me alone and in my grace

A perfect lover, fair of face

To me no other will compare

No other lover will I bear

My soul mate now must come to me

For as I will so mote it be

Allow the candle to burn all the way out. Do this spell for seven nights in a row. Keep the stubs of the candles in a safe place and relax with the knowledge that the perfect person for you is on the way, that he or she has been set upon a path to meet you.

As with any spell, you can modify it to strengthen it.  You might choose to write a list of the characteristics you would value most in a partner on a piece or parchment in Dove’s Blood ink, then place it under the candle each night to help focus on the traits you seek. If so, retain the parchment with the candle stubs until you love arrives. You may decorate the candles by carving in corresponding runes, glyphs, sigils, or even the most desired traits you are seeking in your mate. Each witch must decide for themselves how to modify the spell to make it their own.

Witchery: My Crystal Ball Scrying

Many witches use crystal balls for their divining purposes. They are beautiful and exotic tools to work with, and after all it is so easy! Just look onto the crystal ball, wiggle your fingers at it, say “Woo Woo” and you just see the future presented in it similar to watching a movie, right?
NOT!

I have learned the hard way that when you study the crystal ball, you learn to meditate and breathe properly; you learn to concentrate and see with your inner eye. Then, and only then, “if” you see something in the ball, you will know that you can read it. It is a talent, mastered by some but certainly not by all who attempt it.

Surprisingly, out of the hundreds of witches I have spoken with, only a few of them can really do the Hollywood version of crystal gazing, see a fluid moving picture rich in depth and details. I am not one of those. Other witches can see at will, still pictures which have perfect meaning and by which they interpret the events surrounding the still picture. I am not one of those either. I am one of the witches who, after careful study, after learning to breathe properly (without having to count and concentrate on each breath), after learning how to look into the ball and dim the rest of the surrounding world into invisibility. I see stairs nine times out of ten. Why?

I have had a terror of stairs since I can remember thinking anything at all. I hated the old version of “Phantom of the Opera”. Before I saw it I could watch any scary movie and it wouldn’t give me nightmares. However, after the scene with the stairs, for some reason I started having nightmares, which caused my parents to restrict my viewing of scary movies. I really, truly, hate the movie “Labyrinth” with David Bowie. Every time I see the part with all the stairs my skin literally crawls, I mean I can feel it move! I have had what I call “stair-mares” all my life. Nightmares in which I find myself confronted with stairs going up and down, on walls, ceilings, etc. I had had them since long before “Labyrinth” existed. I still have them to this day, but now, even though I am frightened upon waking, I am fascinated as well. I am trying to discern what these mean for me.

Sometimes, when I see the stairs while gazing, I see them from the viewpoint of about 10 or 15 feet away. They are on one side of the wide corridor I am standing in, they curve ever so slightly to the side under me. The stairs are closed in, not open, a new corridor all their own. From where I stand I can see down the stairs for only a few steps, I cannot even see the risers well as they seem to curve back toward me. They look to be about six feet wide, but I get a feeling of constriction when I look at them. There is a handrail on the side of the wall going down, which I can see from my vantage point. I have tried many times but I can get no closer to the stairs, I can get no feelings from this scene but fear, a heart pounding fear. I do not know what it means but I get the feeling that I would prefer to find out via the visions, rather than in person.

I have considered the fact that the stairs may relate to a previous life, possibly even the reason that it is a “past” life and not a current one, but I have not been able to see that life so far, though I have tried many times. There is something blocking that life from my view, at this time. Perhaps I will get past the mental block in the future. I can only keep trying and see what comes in the future, as I am not a witch who gives in easily.
